Here are the facts, information, and myths that may illuminate your understanding of streetlights in general. Street light are everywhere from near houses the road, highway, etc. Did you know that the first street light recorded is in the city of Antioch from the 4th century B.C?

The early lamps were used by the Greeks and Romans civilizations. Back then electricity hasn’t been discovered yet so they use Oil lamps. Oil lamp as the name already suggest is a lamp powered by oil, these were used predominantly as they provided a long-lasting and moderate flame Their purpose is still the same as today to secure and to protect the wanderers from tripping on the path over something or keeping the potential robbers at bay.

According to some sources, illumination was ordered in London in 1417 by Sir Henry Barton, Mayor of London although there is no firm evidence to fully support this info. Street lights that are powered by solar clocks and photo cell doesn’t need to be manually adjusted to change between GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) to BST (British Summer Time) they are designed to self-adjust their time to the user’s desire.

When streetlights are ‘on’ in the day, ever wonder how much extra charge it cost? P100? P2,300? The answer is none, the electric company has a fix charge agreed so it doesn’t cost any largen when it’s on but that doesn’t mean we should let the street light open even on day light because power is still power and we should save it.

Ever wonder why some lights are turned on but others are not? That’s because some of the problems of the older streetlight model is its clock mechanism which can affect the timing and lighting up times can be out of sync, due to sudden cut of power or insect jamming the circuit which can affect the civilians if these problems aren’t fix right away.

These are just some of the information, myths, and Facts about street light that some may or may not know. But as always Knowing is better than guessing especially when it’s about mechanism that protects us from possible danger.
