Oil lamp as the name already suggest is a lamp powered by oil, these were used predominantly as they provided a long-lasting and moderate flame Their purpose is still the same as today to secure and to protect the wanderers from tripping on the path over something or keeping the potential robbers at bay.

According to some sources, illumination was ordered in London in 1417 by Sir Henry Barton, Mayor of London although there is no firm evidence to fully support this info. Street lights that are powered by solar clocks and photo cell doesn’t need to be manually adjusted to change between GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) to BST (British Summer Time) they are designed to self-adjust their time to the user’s desire.

When streetlights are ‘on’ in the day, ever wonder how much extra charge it cost? P100? P2,300? The answer is none, the electric company has a fix charge agreed so it doesn’t cost any largen when it’s on but that doesn’t mean we should let the street light open even on day light because power is still power and we should save it.
